Table tennis little fry Seychelles have been satisfied for taking part in the 48th world championships as they ended their short campaign in two days when powerhouse China have yet to play a match here on Sunday.
"We've foreseen the results that none of our four players could go through the qualification rounds in the worlds," said Francis Remie, the team leader of Seychelles. "There's no regrets now after taking part."
Three male and one female players from Seychelles had arrived here for the world's top-class tournament of the sport, and all of them suffered early exits in qualification rounds of the men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles events.
"We should be satisfied after joining so many world champions here and watching their playing," added Remie.
Vincent Isaac, 18, who was beaten 4-0 Saturday by Iceland's Guomundur Stephensen in one of his group round matches, said his best wish was to prove that he was not the worst.
"I love the sport since I enjoy every game during playing," said the 18-year-old African who has played table tennis for only four years. "I've been wishing to play Chinese because they are the best in the world, but I'm not good enough right now to get a chance."
Seychelles participated in the 42nd, 43rd, 45th and 47th worlds before coming here but never made the first round in 12 years.
With a population of 81,000, Seychelles has developed table tennis without a professional system and all the budgets are covered by the government of the island country in the western Indian Ocean.
