US soldier killed, 7 wounded in military operations in Iraq

One US soldier was killed and seven wounded in military operations in Iraq on Monday, the US military said on Tuesday.

"One 1st Corps Support Command Soldier was killed and another was injured when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle during a combat logistics patrol south of Baghdad International Airport at approximately 9:45 p.m. (0545 GMT) on Monday," the military said in a statement.

Earlier in the same day, six soldiers were also wounded in exchange of fire with insurgents during a military operation near the Syrian border, said the military. The US forces shot dead nine insurgents after stopping a truck and coming under fire near the Iraqi town of Qaim close the Syrian border, it added. Moreover, three suspected insurgents were also killed in a subsequent air strike near the site, according to the military.
