font size

The UN General Assembly will convene a special session next Tuesday to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The assembly spokesman's office said on Friday that the session will bring together permanent representatives of the 191 UN member states.

The meeting was arranged under a resolution adopted by the assembly last November, which declared May 8 and 9 as days of remembrance and reconciliation to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Second World War.

The resolution also called on UN member states to conduct activities during these days to remember the victims of the war.

Representatives of Russia, Israel, China, Germany and 7 other countries have planned to address the session.

The Russian mission to the United Nations will sponsor a concert in the General Assembly Hall on Saturday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of WWII as well as the 60th anniversary of the United Nations.
