HK launch legal information website for public

The China Information Technology and Law Center of the University of Hong Kong launched a bilinguallegal information website -- Community Legal Information Center here Friday.

According to the university, the aim of the establishment of the website is to enable members of the public to have a preliminary understanding of the legal position of a certain matter before going to a lawyer for legal advice.

Topics now covered by the website include Bankruptcy and Winding Up, Employment Disputes, Landlord and Tenant, Matrimonial Matters, Hong Kong Legal System and Legal Aid. Other topics such as Police and Crime, Consumer Complaints, Sale and Purchase of Property etc. will be added at a later stage.

Members of the public can also check out for information on where to seek free legal assistance, and how to get a lawyer from the Community Legal Information Center website.

Established jointly by the university's Faculty of Law and the Department of Computer Science, the university's law center has been commissioned by the Government to develop, host and maintain the website as an adjunct to the Hong Kong Legal Information Institute.
