Israeli troops accidentally fired an artillery shell into Lebanese territory on Monday, the Ha'aretz daily reported.

According to the report, Israeli troops fired the shell in an attempt to blow up mines planted by Hezbollah militants near an army border post.

Several rounds were fired on Monday and one of the rounds fell by mistake in Lebanese territory, very close to the international border.

The incident caused no casualty or damage, and details of the incident had been passed on to the Lebanese government via UN peacekeepers.
