font size

The statistic report issued May 8 by the national office for holiday administration indicates that the tourist number hosted nationwide reached 121 million in total during the golden week, harvested an earning of RMB 46.7 billion yuan, telling a respective increase of 332 and 231 percent as against that in the first golden week set in motion in 1999.

The "May 1" is the 18th golden week for the Chinese people. The golden week, through a development of 7 years has witnessed a change for diversified ways for holiday-making of the Chinese people, aside from the big increase in tourist number and revenue, in which the holiday consumption is tending to be more reasonable with a much stronger consciousness for leisure and relaxation. The ways of Chinese people in holiday making is in the period of transition and escalation.

1.The ways for tours are tending to be diversified with tour-groups organized by travel agencies on incessant decrease yet it sees a big scale escalation in individualized tours.

2.The holiday consumption tends to be more reasonable. People no longer swarm out from cities for tours nor will they do any blind shopping but take the "golden week" as a long interval in between study and work, and for reasonable consumption with some free time at their own discretion in order to appreciate fully the double enjoyment in both spiritual and material aspects as brought to them along with the modern society.

3.Consciousness for leisure-making is becoming stronger as time goes by. More and more Chinese choose the way of staying at home for holiday, a more reasonable and comfortable way for spending holiday. This indicates that the Chinese people are tending to be more conscious in leisure-making.

The expert is of opinion that the activity for leisure betrays more the individualities of the people, brings their initiatives and potentials into play. The ways for holiday-making of the Chinese people is now in the course of transition and escalation.
