May 9 marks the 60th anniversary of the victory of Chinese people's War of Resistance Against Japan and the victory of the world's Anti-Fascist War. May 9 is the V Day of European Anti-Fascist War. September 3 is the V Day of the Anti-Japanese War of the Chinese people and also the V Day of the Anti-Fascist War of the world. On May 9, some countries will hold various commemorative activities for celebrating the grand festival of all the peace-loving nations and people in the whole world. We pay the highest respects to the people of many countries that were dedicated themselves to the peace and justice of mankind during the war while we extend our deep condolences to the innocent victims of the whole world massacred by the fascists.

The world's Anti-Fascist War waged more than 60 years ago was the life-and-death struggle of justice and evilness in the history of mankind. The fascists of Germany, Italy and Japan launched the war of aggression outrageously in order to realize the wild ambition of their world hegemony. They massacred, robbed and persecuted crazily the people of more than 60 countries, bringing the enormous disaster to the whole world and the unprecedented great calamity to the human civilization. In the face of evil fascist forces, all the peace-loving forces in the whole world jointed hands together, supported each other and fought shoulder to shoulder, giving a heavy blow to the fascist aggression and expansion. After many years of hard struggle in bloody battles, they won the great victory of the world's Anti-Fascist War at last and wrote the indelible and glorious chapter of the human history.

In the east of the world, the Chinese people lifted the banner of the anti-Fascism first and waged extremely hard and bitter Anti-Japanese War. This is the just war in which the Chinese people of all nationalities resisted the Japanese invaders and strived for their national liberation. The Communist Party of China was a mainstay of the united resistance war of the whole nation. As the eastern main battlefield of World War II, China persisted on the longest war in the world, hampered and resisted more than 2/3 of the total Japanese ground forces and consumed the most crack troops of Japanese aggressive troops. As a result China effectively supported the Anti-Fascist War in Europe, Pacific as well as in other areas of Asia strategically. The Anti-Japanese War waged by the Chinese people was an important component of the world's Anti-Fascist War. The Chinese people made the enormous sacrifice and important historical contributions to the victory of the Anti-Fascist War of the world.

The Anti-Fascist War of the world is a great and just war in the history of mankind. It is the extremely precious history that the whole mankind was given. Today, we review the history aiming at summarizing the experience, drawing the lessons and carrying forward the national spirit taking patriotism as the core and the spirit of the times with reforming and innovating at the core in a more cost-effective manner in order to advance the policy of the reform and opening up to the outside world and the modernization drive of our country, safeguard world peace, bring about common development and create a common happy life and bright future for the mankind.

Peace and justice are invincible. In the long river of history, though there exist the factors that threaten the world peace and destroy the stability in the world unavoidably, it is the fundamental interests and common aspiration forever for the progressive mankind to pursue peace and yearn for justice. No matter how furious the fascists were, the world is the world of the world people and China is the Chinese people's China eventually. In front of the people who love peace, pursue justice and united unanimously, any strength that causes history fall back will be overcome finally.

Only with history as a guide and mirror can we face the future. The fascist war of aggression, not merely brought the terrible disasters to the people of many countries in the world including the Chinese people, but also made the people of the countries who launched the war of aggression hurt deeply. When taking correct approach to history, the introspection of the war of aggression should be implemented in action, never do the things again that hurt the feelings of those people who have been hurt definitely. The past experience, if not forgotten, can serve as a guide for the future. Only in this way could they win the confidence of the international community.

A country will be vulnerable to attack if it lags behind. Only development could make a country strong. Reviewing China's modern history and taking a broad view of the reality of the present times, we will realize more profoundly that only there is national unity, people's unity, social stability, economic development, enhanced national power, can the Chinese be dignified, the Chinese nation have long-term stability and make contributions to world peace and common development. We will remember well all the time that it is the first important task to develop; remember all along the sustainable scientific view of development in an all-round way; that nothing can be done if without steady social situation; the overwhelming majority of the people's fundamental interests are the starting point and foothold for all our work; taking the road to peaceful development unswervingly. We will catch hold of and make good use of the important strategic opportunities available, focus our attention on construction and work hard for development wholeheartedly.

In the modern history, humiliated and bullied the Chinese people know deeply peace and stability are valuable, so they cherish even more the right of independence and self-reliance obtained through their long-term struggle. The Chinese people insist on taking the road to peaceful development. China is the firm strength for safeguarding world peace and boosting common development. History has proved and will continue to prove that all loving-peace nations and people will have the ability to drive invaders out of their own territory, to finish all the forms of oppression and enslavement, certainly have the ability to realize peace and development through their efforts. Let us unite closely around the Central Party Committee headed by Comrade Hu Jintao as the general secretary, hold high the banner of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thoughts of "Three Represents", unite as one, live plainly and work hard in order to turn our motherland into a socialist and modernized powerful country as well as to safeguard world peace and improve common development.
