At least a junior police officer was killed and dozens of policemen were reported missing in attacks by anti-government guerrillas at three separate security bases in eastern Nepal, a security official said Tuesday.
"Separate groups of armed insurgents attacked joint security bases at Choharwa and Bandipur and a police post at Mirchaiya in Siraha district from late Monday," the security official said on condition of anonymity.
According to preliminary reports, a junior police officer had been killed and over 30 policemen had been reported as missing from Mirchaiya police post by Tuesday morning, he noted, adding, "There were reports of clashes until early Tuesday."
A night-vision helicopter reached the area Tuesday morning to support the security personnel, but details were not available, herevealed.
At least 13 policemen had already come into contact, he added.
