DPRK Rodong Sinmun: Japan unqualified to be permanent member
font size

Rodong Sinmun, the mouthpiece of the Korean Workers Party, published an editorial Monday saying that Japan is unwilling to settle questions concerning its past evil history. Instead it pursues rightism and militarism. It is not at all qualified to bid for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.

The editorial says the objectives of the UN reform is to enhance democracy, prevent arbitrariness and unilateral action of a few countries and ensure the justness of the United Nations in handling international affairs. Many countries in the world particularly the Asian countries feel surprised at Japan's bid for permanent membership in the Security Council and are opposed to it.

It says Japan is still denying, distorting and glorifying its past aggression history. It fails to educate its young generations in a right manner. Japan intentionally provokes and intensifies territorial disputes with neighboring countries, which has resulted in strained regional situation. Japan aggressively expands armament and consolidates the Japan-US alliance. Senior politicians joined together to pay tribute to the Yasukuni Shrine.

It says Japan has until this moment failed to sincerely reflect on and settle questions concerning its past evil history. On the contrary it goes further and further on its way to rightism and militarism. Without bidding farewell to its past Japan cannot gain the trust of the international community.
