President Hu returns after attending ceremony marking victory of Russia' s Patriotic War

Chinese President Hu Jintao returned to Beijing Tuesday morning after attending a celebration ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the victory of Russia's Great Patriotic War in Moscow.

During the ceremony held Monday morning, Hu joined more than 50 other state leaders or heads of international organizations for the huge parade on Moscow's Red Square and the wreath-laying ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Hu Jintao also met with Russian war veterans, who helped China in fighting Japanese invaders in World War II, and their representatives, hours after his arrival in Moscow Sunday.

He joined the Russian people to commemorate the historical contribution the former Soviet Union army and people made for the victory of the world anti-fascist war.

He also hailed the huge contribution of China's anti-Japanese war to the victory of the world anti-fascist war, and appreciated the important assistance of soviet people during the war.

On the sidelines of the celebrations, Hu met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Roh Moo-hyun of the Republic of Korea, President Saparmurad Atayevich Niyazov of Turkmenistan, Romanian President Traian Bbasescu and French President Jacques Chirac.

They conferred on enhancing bilateral relations and major international and regional issues of common interest and reached a lot of consensus.

Hu appealed to the international community to keep a deep memory of history, treasure peace and open up a bright future of the world. He said China will insist on a peaceful development road and work together with people around the world to promote peace and development of humankind.

The Chinese President's Russia tour has strengthened Sino-Russian political mutual trust and deepened bilateral strategic cooperation partnership, diplomatic sources said.

The trip also highlighted China's proposition on joining hands with other countries of the world to safeguard peace and promote development and expanded China's international influence.

Hu's trip helped promote bilateral relations between China and other countries and achieved the goal of "showing the peaceful image of China, seeking mutual benefits and win-win situation, deepening bilateral relations between China and other countries and promoting international cooperation", sources from Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

Hu's entourage includes State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan and Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo.

Dai is also Minister in charge of China's Central Foreign Affairs Office. He took over the position from former Minister Liu Huaqiu recently.
