Nepal has been elected as chairman of the Special Committee of the Least Developed Countries at its 7th convention being held in Bangkok under the auspices of Economic and Social Council for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

The convention is being participated by Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Japan, the Maldives, Mongolia, Palau, Papua Newguine, Samoa, Myanmar, Thailand, the Philippines and United Nations agencies.

"The least developed countries and developing countries are expected to get more aid from the developed countries," Ram Krishna Tiwari, acting secretary of the National Planning Commission, Wednesday was quoted by local media as saying.

"The convention is expected to increase the mutual cooperation between the least developed countries," added Tiwari, who is also leader of the Nepali delegation.
