The Xinhua News Agency's report "number game in the tourism statistics for the Golden Week" has aroused strong reaction in society since its release on May 8th. But as reporter tried to contact with the National Tourism Administration (NTA) for further explanation, the reply he got is "You go and verify the figures yourself!"

In the afternoon of May 10th, the reporter with Jinaghua Daily called Zhang Haiyan, Director of the Statistics Department of the NTA, trying to arrange an in-depth interview regarding the statistics for tourism in the Golden Week with him. Zhang first asked, "Did you write a report about the statistics?" "Yes, I'd like to know how you get the statistics for tourism in Golden Week so quickly. Could you make further explanations?" replied the reporter. "What are the grounds for your report?" "The report is based on analysis of the media reports." Zhang answered, "In that case you go and verify the figures yourself!"

Some readers called the Jinghua Daily to say the statistics for the May Day Holiday got "so quickly" and the almost same "per capita consumption" can hardly withstand careful examination. The statistics seem like "the Emperor's new clothes". Everyone sees the problem but no one has the courage to voice out.
