Indonesia's long serving president Soeharto left the Pertamina Hospital here Wednesday after one week under intensive treatment for intestinal bleeding.
The 83-year-old man smiled at a group of journalists from his wheelchair with infusion tube still planted in his hand.
Earlier in the day, Soeharto received a visit by Vice President Jusuf Kalla and a number of top politicians from the Golkar Party, which became his political vehicle during 32 years in power.
Soeharto was toppled in 1998 after nationwide protests against his authoritarian rule and prosecutors indicted him with graft.
But a district court in Jakarta ruled in 2000 that Soeharto was medically unfit for trial.
