The Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Industry Support Center opened Wednesday in the Cyberport of Hong Kong to provide services and help for the companies engaging in digital entertainment industry.
The aim of the center is to provide help in technology, manpower and finance in order to enhance the competitiveness of the digital entertainment industry of Hong Kong. Besides, the center will also provide information and consultation services through internet, according to a Hong Kong government press release.
According to a survey conducted in 2004 on Hong Kong digital entertainment industry, among more than 200 companies engaging in the digital entertainment business, 65 percent employed less than 10 staff, 40 percent of the companies spent less than 500,000 Hong Kong dollars on research and development. The result showed that most of the companies in the industry were small and new without enough financial support and market experience.
The Hong Kong government hoped the center under the management of Hong Kong Productivity Council will become a platform for cooperation between digital entertainment companies and provide necessary help for the development of digital entertainment industry in Hong Kong.
