Xu Kuangdi: Chinese steel consumption to keep in high position
font size

The steel consumption in China will keep in high position in the coming 5 to 10 years and reach the steady state progressively with the development of capital construction and manufacturing industry, according to the forecast of the book entitled "Xu Kuangdi Anthology C Iron, Steel and Metallurgy Volume'' published recently by Xu Kuangdi, well-known metallurgist and president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, reported China News Agency on May 10 in accordance with an Economic Information Daily report.

Xu Kuangdi says, in the next 5 to 10 years, there will still exist the force-driving factor for the development of steel industry in China and China's speed of economic development will be much higher than the average level of the world. There will still be a wide room for the development of the Chinese iron and steel industry with rare opportunities. And the transformation of the traditional industry with high technology will promote the technological progress of the iron and steel industry greatly.

Xu Kuangdi made a further prediction that the shift of the center of the world's iron and steel industry will inevitably go with the shift of the center of the technological inventions. It can be discovered through a broad view of global history of development that the shift of the center of the technological inventions will certainly lag behind the industrial transfer, but it is unquestionable that the diversion will follow the objective law. Xu Kuangdi still predicts the question of energy consumption and environmental protection of the iron and steel industry will be gradually evident in China. As a heavy energy consumption industry with important environmental influence the resources and environmental cost for the development of the iron and steel industry has drawn more attention. It can be expected that the energy and environmental question will become the main stumbling stone for the development of the Chinese iron and steel industry, and the green iron and steel industry with the low consumption of resources and energy can only be established by depending on technological progress and innovations.
