| Giant panda habitat in Sichuan applies for world heritage |
|
As learned from the government of Sichuan Province on Thursday, the giant panda habitat in Sichuan as approved by the State Council has formally become a nominated project by the Chinese government to apply for the world heritage in 2006. Up to now, the World Heritage Center of the UNESCO has already accepted to handle the papers concerned that will be examined at the 30th World Heritage Conference to be held in July 2006.The Party Committee and Government of Sichuan Province have set up "A leading group in charge of application for giant panda habitat in Sichuan to be a world heritage". They've organized the expert demonstration, defining that the mountain ranges of Qionglai, namely Wolong, Sigu'niang and Jiajin mountain ranges to be included in the giant panda habitat for the application of the world heritage. So far, the "application papers" and the "plan for preservation" have been examined and approved by the Ministry of Construction and the whole committee of the CESCO and delivered to the UNESCO in the name of the Chinese Government.
