Bank card industry booms in China
A "white collar" displayed his banking cards in his office in Beijing, May 12, 2005. Banks in China have issued a total of 827 million ban cards so far. In the Q1 in 2005, cross-bank transactions by bank cardholders amounted to 222.1 bln yuan, an year-on-year increase of 61.7 %. China has become of the the countries with most card holders.

China's light maglev "Zhonghua-06" made debut
China's llight maglev train "Zhonghua-06" made debut in Dalian in northeast China's Liaoning Province on May 11. The train is 9.6 meters long, 1.65 meters wide and 1.87 meters high. The designed speed is 400 kPH.

Several hundreds of students from Kabul University hold anti-US protests on the street in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, May 12, 2005. The university students, angered by a report in Newsweek magazine that US interrogators at the Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba had desecrated the Quran to intimidate prisoners, started demonstrations in eastern city of Jalalabad on Tuesday and the protests spread in some other cities on Wednesday.

German Bundestag approves EU constitution
German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer congratulated Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder (R) after he delivered speech at the Bundestag on May 12. A total of 569 members of the Bundestag, or the lower chamber, voted for the EU constitution while 23 against and 2 abstained.
