font size

All the nine miners trapped underground after a gas explosion took place in a coal mine in Qitaihe City of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province were confirmed death Thursday.

Eleven miners were underground when the explosion occurred at 5:00 pm Wednesday. Two narrowly escaped, while nine were trapped in the mine.

With the bodies of the nine victims found, the rescue headquarters announced end of the rescue operation.

Rescuers are extracting hazardous gas out of the coal pit to make it possible for the investigation group to come down to investigate the cause of the accident.

The two injured miners are under medical treatment in the hospital.
