Three more persons were injured in Khogyani district of eastern Nangarhar province Thursday as demonstration over the alleged abuse of Holy Quran entered its third day, an official said.

"Three persons were wounded in Khogyani district today when police tried to disperse the protestors there," Faizanul Haq, a spokesman of the Governor House in Jalalabad, told Xinhua.

Four persons were killed and over 70 others were injured in clash between angry protestors and personnel of law enforcing agencies in Nangarhar's provincial capital Jalalabad Wednesday.

Besides denouncing the reported abuse of the Muslim Holy book, the Quran, the protestors also asked the US government to apologize for the incident.

According to US-based magazine Newsweek, the US army men at Guantanamo Bay prison had put Quran in toilet and flushed in down to mentally torture inmates there.

Some 500 suspected Taliban and al-Qaeda militants have been held at the prison since the collapse of Taliban regime in late 2001.

"In a bid to calm down the situation in Khogyani, the governor Hajji Deen Mohammad has sent a delegation there to negotiate with protestors and address their concerns," Haq added.

Due to governor's efforts, the situation in Khogyani had returned to normal, he said.

In addition to Jalalabad, several protest demonstrations were held in Khost, Wardak, Laghman and Kandahar the other day. Similar demonstrations were also held Thursday in Logar and Takhar to express people's concerns over the issue.
