Economic Daily published an analysis article written by Huang Weiping, professor of the Renmin University of China and doctoral tutor on May 12. The article says there still exists enormous space for Sino-Japanese economic and trade cooperation.
The article says now some people in Japan have ambivalent feelings towards the high-speed and sustainable development of China's economy. On one hand they wish to get benefits from the rapid development of China's economy while on the other hand they believe the high-speed development of China's economy will constitute enormous pressure on Japan. Such complicated psychology makes some of the ruling politicians in Japan attempt to keep a lookout and hamper China's development from many aspects when developing cooperation with China.
In fact, judging from the present economic and trade contacts between the two countries, complementarity is far more than competitiveness. China mainly exports natural resources and labor-intensive products to Japan, including clothing, fabrics, fossil fuel, animal products, vegetables and furniture; and capital-intensive products involving electrical machines and equipment, iron and steel, machinery, plastics and chemical fiber are the main products that Japan exports to China. It is more important that there is still enormous disparity in the economic development levels of the two countries of China and Japan with obvious differences existed in the industrial structure of the two countries. Therefore the further development of the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries is not only favorable to the economic development of both sides, but also there is an enormous room.
From the economic point of view, the handling capacity of a nation's market shows one aspect of its national power and also embodies its control power. In the past two years, there appear two new terms in Japan: one is known as "special China need'' and another is "digital boom''. The "special China need'' refers to the high-speed development of China's economy and the fast expansion of the Chinese market, bringing along the production and exports of Japanese enterprises; meanwhile, the digital products have been taken among them considerably big part in the requirement of China's brisk economic growth, therefore driving the development of the relevant Japanese enterprises, namely "digital boom''.
The further economic development in China will bring even more "booms'' to Japanese enterprises probably and make more Japanese people from all walks of life consider the political relations between the two countries from a long-term angle. So, it should become the directions of efforts to let the market play more roles and make positive chance greater than negative one. China can foster its stronger ability in production, research and development in this process through further strengthening economic and trade cooperation with Japan in order to realize win-win finally.
In a word, there still exists enormous space for Sino-Japanese economic and trade cooperation. We should deal with various disputes rationally according to market law and by starting from the overall situation of safeguarding national fundamental and long-term interests, and at the same time perfect relevant laws and regulations further so as to make the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries enter into a healthier track.
