HK senior C&E officer arrested for alleged corruption

Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has arrested six persons, including a Senior Superintendent of the Customs and Excise Department (C&E), for suspected bribery offenses under the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

According to the ICAC on Thursday, also arrested in the operation which commenced on Tuesday, were the chairman and an associate director of a private detective company, a senior executive of a recording industry association and two other persons.

The ICAC investigation arose from information, which alleged a senior C&E officer of accepting advantages.

ICAC inquiries revealed that the arrested Senior Superintendent of C&E had allegedly accepted bribes from the chairman and an associate director of a private detective company for providing the latter with confidential C&E information, and referring business to them.

It was alleged that the arrested Senior Superintendent of C&E had also accepted a number of unauthorized loans from a senior executive of a recording industry association.
