The first international trade fair held in Kashi in southern part of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region closed Friday with great success.
More than 4,300 businessmen from China's economically developed coastal regions -- provinces on the Yangtze River delta and Pearl River delta -- as well as from central and south Asia attended the three-day trade fair, which took in a combined transaction value of 2.6 billion yuan (313 million US dollars).
This was another major trade event in western China apart from the annual trade fair held in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang, a multi- ethnic region in northwest China.
Kashi was chosen as the site of the fair because it is within 1, 000 km from capitals of five neighboring countries and adjacent to four Chinese border ports.
Zhang Yannian, Chinese ambassador to the Kyrgyzstan, said Chinese commodities such as clothes, household electric appliances and daily necessities were well received in central Asia for their good quality and cheap price. "The current trade fair opens an outlet for export of Chinese products to central and south Asia," he said.
