East China's Anhui Province saw sharp growth in foreign investment during the first four months this year, the provincial department of commerce said.

The department said that Anhui attracted 60.26 million US dollars from this January to April, 72 percent higher than the same period last year.

Nine projects absorbed more than five million US dollars each, accounting for nearly half of the total.

The department said 113 foreign-funded companies were approved in Anhui during the first four months in 2004, with an investment of 41.7 million US dollars, up 140 percent year-on-year.
