Karzai urges investigation on unrest in Afghanistan

Afghan president Hamid Karzai on Saturday urged a thorough investigation on the demonstrations over reported US Quran desecration in Guantanamo Bay. Intensely blaming the behavior of arousing the bloody protests,the president told reporters at a press conference at his palace that the authorities would arrest those responsible whether they are Afghans or foreigners.

The demonstrations have left 27 dead and more than 100 injured,which makes the country's worst unrest since the ouster of Taliban.

They sent the students to the street, set fire and attack non-governmental organizations, police stations and government offices,said the president in his first public comment on the unrest sincereturning from a five-day trip to Europe. The unrest is not only to against the desecration happened in Guantanamo, but also to against the long-time ties between Afghanistan and the world, the long-time strategic relations of Afghanistan with the United States and North Atlantic Treaty Organizations (NATO), Karzai criticized.

The bloody unrest was agitated by the enemy of Afghanistan to defame the country, said Karzai.

But they have made a mistake, he added. Afghanistan will create the relationship with the United States and the world even much faster.

He also criticized the US role in the country, saying the US forces must consult on all military operations and that he would ask President George W. Bush to hand over all Afghans in American custody.
