Ministries require to limit number of athlete for undergraduate enrollmentTwo government ministries have jointly issued a notice requiring colleges and universities to limit the number of high-level athletes enrolled for undergraduatestudy. The notice, issued by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the State Sport Administration, ordered universities to limit the number of high-level athletes enrolled to be less than 1 percent of the total of undergraduates. Before that, the MOE also required universities to ensure the number of first-class athletes be no more than 20 percent of all the high-level athletes they enroll. The notice also requires universities to clearly list the number of the high-level athletes they enroll in their enrollment plan to avoid universities taking advantage of the preferential policy to enroll other students who do not qualify for college entry. Students with the titles first-class athlete and excellent sportsman are allowed to enter universities without taking part in the national entrance examination as long as they are considered by the universities to be capable of finishing their study, the notice said.
