Dozens of anti-government guerrillas have been killed on Sunday evening during clashes with security force in central Nepal, the army said in Kathmandu Monday.
"At least 50 rebels were reportedly killed during clashes with security personnel at Jarayatar, some 40 km northeast of district headquarters Sindhulimadi," an army official said here on condition of anonymity.
At least two security personnel were also killed and seven others injured during nearly four-hour-long clashes, he noted, adding, "Dozens of other rebels have been reported as injured during the clashes."
The security personnel were pursuing the insurgents who were returning to their hideouts after staging attack at four security bases in the eastern district of Siraha and central Dhanusha district last week.
At least 37 guerrillas, five security personnel and six civilians were killed during the fierce overnight battle in Siraha, he added.
