Sports round-table meeting of Fortune Global Forum opens in Beijing

The 2008 Olympics to be held in Beijing will help boost sports undertakings in China and provide wonderful opportunities for global sportswear and sport gear businesses, said a senior Chinese sports official at the opening ceremony of the sports round-table meeting of the Ninth Global Forum in Beijing.

The round-table is being held at the St. Regis Hotel Beijing.

Another round-table on cultural issues is also convening at the hotel.

At the opening ceremony of the sports round-table meeting, Liu Peng, head of the State Administration of Sport, said that physical culture is flourishing in China and that Beijing's winning in bidding for hosting the 2008 Olympics has directly boosted the development of sports undertakings in the city.

"This is especially meaningful for businesses eager to sell their sports brands to billions of consumers in China," Liu said.

Topics of the one-day event includes China and physical culture, why Chinese consumers love sports, the prospects of sports undertakings in China and the relationship of sports and media.
