Consumer price index up 1.8 percent in April: NBS

China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Monday that the consumer price index (CPI) of China in April was up 1.8 percent compared with the same period of the previous year.

However, the CPI was down 0.3 percent over March this year, NBS said.

According to the bureau, the CPI saw a 2.6 percent year-on-year increase between January and April, but the growth was down 0.2 percentage point compared with the first quarter of this year.

he bureau said food prices increased by 3.1 percent in April, representing a 3.1 percent year-on-year increase. The price of consumer goods was up 1.3 percent and that of services, up 3.6 percent.

The grain price dropped by 1.7 percent, and the prices of meat, poultry and their products increased by 8.6 percent, while that of egg up 6.1 percent; and vegetables prices increased by 6.4 percent.
