NPC vice chairman calls for attention to gaps of knowledge and wealth
font size

At the ongoing Beijing Fortune Forum, Cheng Siwei, Vice Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee expressed his concern about the severe challenges that China, as well as other Asian countries, faces in the course of the fast development. He called for special attention of the whole community to the gaps of both knowledge and wealth.

He has observed that China is on its way toward a knowledge-based society with a knowledge-oriented economy as its cornerstone. The knowledge cost, he asserted, would take a lion share in costs of products or services.

He exemplified this with the case of DVD which is generally quoted some 40 USD for wholesaling including more than 20 USD for patents. Given this, China and other Asian nations have to improve creativity and education to narrow the gap of knowledge.

The solution to the wealth gap, Cheng thinks, is the distribution of wealth. He regards the efficiency as the most important for the distribution for the first time, fairness for the second time and the social responsibility for the third time.
