As approved by the State Council, no tariff or fee will be charged for the agricultural produce from Taiwan to the 7th Cross-Straits Fair of Economy and Trade to be opened in Fuzhou, east China's Fujian Province, according to sources at the news conference for the fair held on May 17.

It will be the first time for Taiwan farm produce to meet customers on the mainland free of tariff and fee after the visits to the Chinese mainland by Lien Chan, chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT) or the Nationalist Party, and James CY Soong, chairman of the People First Party (PFP) in Taiwan.

Previously, more than ten tons of such produce was directly shipped through Mawei and Mazu.

At the upcoming fair, Fujian-based Chaoda Modern Agriculture Group will join hands for the first time with Taiwan Province Fruit & Vegetable Business Association to deal with exhibition and sale of fruit from Taiwan in Fuzhou.

Presently, three containers delivered from Kaohsiung port to Fuzhou port, 33 tons of fruit, 9.8 tons of fruit to be shipped from Beigan of Mazu directly to Mawei, as well as 2.1 tons of dozens of kinds of farm produce processed in Taiwan have all been in place. They will meet customers at China (Fuzhou) Exhibition Center and some large supermarkets.

Departments concerned in Fujian have taken a series of measures so as to facilitate more agricultural produce from Taiwan to enter the mainland market. Fuzhou Customhouse offered six facilitating measures on entry for Taiwan agricultural produce, including special expressway, special counters for examination and pass formalities.

Application for fruits from Taiwan can be filed to the customhouse before entry after the ships leave the ports in Taiwan. An overtime system 24-7 has been adopted to ensure no delay for the goods from Taiwan.
