Wang Zhaoguo, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), met Wednesday with visiting Icelandic President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson.

Wang spoke highly of the development of China-Iceland relations, saying that under joint efforts of the two sides, China and Iceland have increased political trust and economic cooperation, and enjoyed fruitful cooperation in culture, public health, justice, education, science and technology.

China attaches importance to developing friendly cooperation with Iceland, and is willing to further promote bilateral ties, Wang noted.

The NPC and Icelandic parliament maintain sound cooperation, Wang said, hoping that the legislative bodies of the two countries would strengthen exchanges and cooperation.

Grimsson said Iceland is confident in the prospect of good relations with China. Iceland is willing to further increase exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries, and to deepen economic and trade cooperation and friendship between the two sides.

The president reiterated Iceland's adherence to its one-China policy.
