font size

A forum on cross-Straits agricultural products trade opened Wednesday in Fuzhou, capital of east China's Fujian Province, with a theme to facilitate cross-Straits agricultural cooperation.

The activity, as part of the ongoing Seventh China (Fuzhou) Cross-Straits Economic Trade Fair, attracted 200-plus businessmen and scholars from both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan Province.

The participants discussed six topics, including building a cross-Straits agricultural trade cooperation platform, the central government's latest policies on agricultural products from Taiwan, and the complementation and integration of the cross-Straits agricultural resources.

The Chinese mainland has decided to expand access of Taiwan fruits to the mainland from 12 to 18 species and offer zero tariffs on at least 10 species of fruits from the island province.

The decision was made in wake of visits to the Chinese mainland by Lien Chan, chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT) or the Nationalist Party, and James CY Soong, chairman of the People First Party (PFP)in Taiwan.
