Icelandic President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson left Beijing Thursday for China's economic hub, Shanghai, the second leg of his week-long state visit as guest of Chinese President Hu Jintao.

During his stay in Beijing, Grimsson and Hu held talks Tuesday, before attending the signing ceremony of four agreements on environmental protection, earthquake research, aviation and telecommunications. He also met with Premier Wen Jiabao.

Accompanying Grimsson on the visit are more than 200 government officials, business people and journalists.

The 62-year-old president will also travel to Qingdao, a coach city in east China's Shandong Province.

Grimsson arrived here Monday for his first China tour after taking office as president in August 1996.
