Tang Dynasty wood sculpture discovered in Sichuan
font size

An exquisitely crafted Tang Dynasty wooden sculpture of a goddess has recently been discovered in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The goddess sculpture is 30.5 centimeters high and 20.5 cm wide and is made out of a solid wooden block. After being weathered for centuries, the paint on the sculpture has totally flaked away but it is still well preserved.

Experts say the plumpness of the goddess is an excellent example how beauty was perceived at the height of the Tang Dynasty. Its uncovered breasts, arms and bare feet are also common traits of Tang Dynasty art.
