A report of the human rights violation in East Timor in 1999 will soon be presented to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, right after three UN experts in Jakarta Friday ended their inquiry of the bloodshed during the country's vote for independence and Indonesia's accounting for the tragedy, an expert said.
The team will present to Annan the report which includes the investigative results of some trials held in Indonesia about the bloodshed in 1999, said UN expert Yozo Yokot.
"After we complete our work, we will give a report which will include recommendations to the Secretary General," he said.
Meanwhile, UN expert Prafullachandra Natvarial Bhagwati expressed satisfaction over the Indonesian Government for the support it provided.
"He (Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda) is very cooperative and helpful," he said.
The Indonesian Special Human Rights Court, which was set up after the violence, once tried 18 Indonesian military men, police officers and civilians over the violence. However, all those in high-ranking positions were acquitted, which them caused criticism from the Western countries.
East Timor became independent in May 2002 after 2.5 years of UN administration following the referendum.
