Alex Ferguson urged on Friday referee Rob Styles to take caution as Saturday's FA Cup final will be "feisty".
"You have to remember the players are human beings," said Ferguson.
"It's a cup final and there will be nerves. The early parts of the game will be feisty, just as they were at Old Trafford and Highbury this season."
Manchester United take on Arsenal in the final at the Millennium Stadium at 1500 BST on Saturday.
In the pair's last meeting in February, which United won 4-2, tempers were frayed even before kick-off with rival captains Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira squaring up in the tunnel.
Ferguson added: "Graham Poll [who refereed that game] found the early parts of the last match difficult to handle but used his experience to get through it.
"There has been this incredible competition between the two clubs over the last 10 years and I honestly don't believe the games are any different now than they were then.
"No-one should get carried away with the idea Arsenal are lilywhite. They will be competitive, so will we and once everything settles down I am sure it will be fine."
