The Moscow Club of Ambassadors from members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was inaugurated Friday.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the club, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Liu Guchang said the club is aimed at boosting the exchange and cooperation between SCO member countries and the overall development of the organization.

The ambassadors' club "provides a new platform for consultations among diplomats from SCO member countries," Liu said.

The SCO has played an important role in safeguarding regional security and stability and promoting regional cooperation, said the Chinese ambassador, who called for closer cooperation in bringing tangible benefits to the peoples in the region resulting from multilateral economic ties.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alexeyev said, "The development and strengthening of the SCO is among the principal priorities in Russia's foreign policy."

The Russian leadership highly evaluates "what has been and willbe done within the framework of the SCO, and the potential of this organization," Alexeyev said.

Participating ambassadors at the meeting expressed their beliefthat the club will promote the dialogue and coordination between SCO member countries.

The SCO comprises China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. SCO ambassadors' clubs have also been set up in Beijing and Astana, capital of Kazakhstan.
