Leader of the Pakistani main Islamic party Jamat-e-Islami on Sunday appealed to Muslims across the globe to stage protest on May 27 against the desecration of the Holy Quran by US forces at Guantanamo Bay.
"Hundreds of thousands of Muslims would participate in a peaceful rally in Islamabad, to condemn the desecration of thee Holy Quran," Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Chief of Jamat-e-Islami, said when speaking to a gathering of some 1,000 people as part of preparations for the protest rallies.
Qazi said that protest rallies would not harm the Christians or other minorities, but would appeal to Muslims to ensure safety of their lives.
Qazi said that the US government took away the arrested Muslims from Afghanistan and Iraq to Guantanamo Bay in order to get away from the law and constitution of their own countries.
He appealed to the Muslims to unite above ethnic and linguistic differences.
The gathering was told that Islamic groups and religious leaders from Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Turkey, Morocco, Kuwait, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Britain, Qatar and Norway have planned rallies on May 27.
