Shanxi Province takes multi-layer measures to protect wetlands
font size

China's Shanxi Province will adopt multi-layer protective measures of wetland resources by constructing wetland nature reserves, national key wetlands, important provincial wetlands and protection areas.

The sewage in the province is about one billion cubic meters annually with only 49 million cubic meters recycled. Many natural wetlands have become the outlets for industrial and agricultural waste water as well as domestic sewage.

Currently, 40 percent of the natural wetlands have been or are going to be reclaimed or renovated. In response, the provincial authorities have ordered that all the illegal reclamation of wetlands in nature reserves or major river courses must be stopped to return farm to wetland and to recover the vegetation.
