Chinese vice-premier, Japanese lower house speaker hold talks

Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi and Japanese House of Representatives Speaker Yohei Kono met in Tokyo Monday to exchange opinions on relations between the two countries.

Wu said she obtained an impression on Japanese people's friendship to Chinese people and their earnest wish to improve bilateral relations after attending the China Day held in Aichi Expo 2005 and paying a week-long visit to Japan.

She emphasized the Sino-Japanese friendship is the hard-earned fruit of efforts by Chinese and Japanese leaders of generations.

China will adhere to the principle of the three political documents between China and Japan -- the Sino-Japanese Joint Statement, the Peace and Friendship Treaty and Sino-Japanese Joint Declaration -- to develop peaceful, friendly and cooperative ties in the spirit of taking history as a mirror and looking forward to the future.

Wu urged Japanese government to properly handle history issues and stop doing affairs harmful to Sino-Japan friendship and Chinese people's heart.

She noted that one of her purposes here is to push the implementation of the agreement on the development of Sino-Japanese relations between Chinese and Japanese leaders in their Jakarta summit meeting and quickly overcome the current difficulties to help the bilateral relations return to the normal development way.

Wu also pointed out the inaugural meeting of the Japan-China parliamentarian exchange committee will promote not only dialogues between Chinese and Japanese lawmakers but also enhance mutual understanding and trust between peoples of the two countries.

Kono echoed Wu's remarks on bilateral relations, saying that the statesmen of the two countries should make full use of their wisdom to help overcome difficulties and push the ties to normal development.

With the booming cooperation between Japan and China, the two sides have been more dependent on each other and have become close partners, he said, adding that to further develop such relations is significant for regional and world stability and prosperity as well as development of both sides.

At a reception held Sunday in Tokyo by the Japan-China Economy Association and Japan International Trade Promotion Council, Wu also called for promotion of economy and trade cooperation between China and Japan.
