US first lady arrives in Cairo
font size

Laura Bush, wife of US President George W. Bush, arrived here Monday on a two-day visit to Egypt as the last leg of her Mideast tour.

The US first lady, due to be accompanied by Susan Mubarak, wife of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, will visit a girls school and famed Great Pyramids, in addition to a tour of the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.

Laura Bush's regional tour, which has taken her to Jordan, the Palestinian territories and Israel, was seen as part of efforts to mitigate anti-US sentiment in the region following the reported desecration of the Islamic holy book of Quran.
