Three Romanian hostages return home
font size

A Romanian military plane carrying three Romanian journalists, who were kidnapped in Iraq about two months ago, landed at a military airport near Bucharest on Monday afternoon.

The three journalists were greeted by Romanian President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu.

Newspaper reporter Ovidiu Ohanesian, TV reporter Marie-Jeanne Ion, cameraman Sorin Miscoci and their guide Mohammed Monaf were freed in Iraq on Sunday after a joint operation by Romanian intelligence and Iraq's authorities, local media reported.

Around 200 foreigners have been kidnapped in Iraq since April last year, with some executed.
