Forge of official ties between Grenada's ruling party, CPC hailed

Chinese Vice-Premier Huang Ju said in Beijing Monday he was very pleased with the establishment of the party-to-party relations between the ruling party of Grenada, the New National Party (NNP), and the Communist Party of China (CPC).

"The CPC desires to develop friendly cooperation with the NNP by following the principles of independence, equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs," Huang said at a meeting with Elvin Nimrod, chairman of the NNP.

The Caribbean country resumed diplomatic ties with China in January this year, severing 15-year-long diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

Huang, also member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, described the re- establishment of the ties between the two countries as a "major event" in the history of bilateral relations, saying that it has " not only conformed to the fundamental interests of the two peoples, but also laid down a solid political foundation for the full development of bilateral ties."

"We want to work with Grenada to boost the sustained, stable and healthy development of bilateral ties for the interests of the two peoples," Huang said.

Nimrod said he was satisfied with the development of bilateral ties since January. "I believe the establishment of official relations between Grenada's NNP and CPC will further strengthen and deepen the friendly ties between the two countries."

"Grenada will firmly abide by the one-China policy to boost the healthy and stable growth of bilateral ties," said Nimrod, who is also Grenada's foreign minister and minister of International Trade.

On Monday morning, Nimrod also met with Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.
