China publishes guidelines on water-saving technologies

The China Guidelines on Water-saving Technologieswere recently published by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Agriculture, being the country's first policy document covering water-saving technologies for agricultural, industrial and urban use.

Divided into five chapters and 146 articles, the Guidelines are intended to play a guiding rule in the following aspects: first, point out the direction of technological research, industrial development and project investment; second, promote the application of mature, advanced water-saving technologies and techniques; third, help phase out obsolete technologies, techniques and equipment; fourth, provide technical support for regions and sectors in formulating their water-saving plans; fifth, provide technical support for regions and sectors in formulating water-using standards.
