Hong Kong's total exports up 2.1 pct in March

The volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods rose 3.5 percent in March over the same month last year, while that of domestic exports fell 19.2 percent, the Census and Statistics Department announced Monday.

Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods rose 2.1 percent, while the volume of goods imports fell 1.1 percent.

The prices of goods re-exports rose 1.5 percent, and those of domestic exports by 5 percent. Taken together, the prices of total goods exports grew 1.8 percent, while the prices of goods imports increased 3.9 percent.

Comparing the first quarter of 2005 with the same period in 2004, the volume of Hong Kong's goods re-exports rose 10.4 percent, while that of domestic exports fell 9.5 percent. Taken together, the volume of total goods exports grew 9.2 percent, while the volume of goods imports increased 4.4 percent.

Comparing the first quarter of 2005 with the fourth quarter of 2004 on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total goods exports increased 0.1 percent.

Within this total, the volume of re-exports increased 1 percent,that of domestic exports fell 14.4 percent, while the volume of goods imports saw a 1.3 percent rise.
