Upper reaches of Yangtze River to have 4 new power plantsChina Three Gorges Project Corporation plans to break ground for two power plants along the Yangtze River which combine to generate more electricity than the Three Gorges project. The construction of Xiluodu power plant which has installed capacity of 12.6 million kilowatts is under way while Xiangjiaba power plant designed to have installed capacity of 6 million kilowatts is scheduled to be launched by the end of the year. Feasibility studies are being made on Wudongde and Baihetan power plants. The four will have a total stalled capacity of 38.5 million kilowatts and generate 174.4 billion kilowatt-hour electricity on average a year. That doubles the power generated by the Three Gorges project. 11.7 billion yuan of bidding will be open for the Three Gorges project, Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba in 2005. By People's Daily Online |
