353 mln out of 683 mln Chinese phone subscribers use cells

Statistics released Tuesday by the Ministry of Information Industry show that by the end of April China's telephone subscribers have exceeded 683 million. Among them fixed-line subscribers reached 329.469 million and cellphone subscribers reached 353.711 million.

The data show that fixed-line telephone penetration rate is 24.9 percent. Cellphone penetration rate is 25.9 percent. As cellphone penetration rate steadily grows cellphone added value business represented by short message service is still developing rapidly. Short messages sent through cellphones have reached 902.55173 trillion by the end of April increasing by 39.2 percent over the same period in last year.
