A spokesman for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government issued a statement on the resignation of Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang on Wednesday.

The statement said Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang had tendered his resignation on Wednesday in view of his intention to run for the Chief Executive election.

It said his request for resignation has been submitted to the State Council for consideration Wednesday afternoon. Tsang proceeded on leave thereafter.

In accordance with the provisions of the Basic Law, Hong Kong Financial Secretary Henry Tang became the Acting Chief Executive when Tsang proceeded on leave, the statement said.

At the same time, Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands Michael Suen started to act as the Chief Secretary for Administration, the statement said.
