A symposium on Asia-Pacific policy on copyright and the promotion of related industries was held in Hangzhou, capital city of east China's Zhejiang Province on May 24. At the symposium, Shen Rengan, secretary of the Copyright Society of China, said, the role of copyright in promoting cultural and educational undertakings has been widely acknowledged in China, yet that copyright of intangible property can be transformed into productive force thus directly boost socio-economic development, has not received universal recognition or due attention. China, as other developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region, is faced with both challenges and opportunities in the course of strengthening the protection of copyright and pushing the development of "copyright industry". Yan Xiaohong, deputy director of the National Copyright Administration, said China should speed up planning on the strategy of copyright development, encourage the creation and spread of excellent works, exert efforts to balance the relations between the writer, publisher and the public, as well as accelerate the transformation of potential intellectual achievements into productive force. At the same time, for a leap-forward development, the government should offer supportive policies such as preferential tax and funds for development to attract foreign financial companies and venture funds.
