The epidemic situation of Asia type I foot and mouth disease in China has been put under control, China's chief veterinary officer said in Beijing Friday at a press conference of the Information Office of the State Council.
The infected cattle and cattle in the same herd have been stamped out, said Jia Youling, director general of Veterinary Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture.
No human beings or domestic fowl were infected with the H5N1 bird flue virus that has killed more than 1,000 migrant birds in northwest China's Qinghai Province, Jia said. There is no precedent in the world for the prevention and control of avian influenza of migratory birds, he said.
